Creative Medicine: Healing Through Words, LLC (CMHTW) was founded by Ronnie Nelson Sidney, II, LCSW. Our mission is to improve participants’ social, emotional and physical health outcomes through therapeutic writing and dialogue. We envision a world where people will use therapeutic writing and dialogue as tools to restore hope and heal wounds. We offer professional speaking, workshops, book publishing, and consultation services.
In 2015, CMHTW released "Nelson Beats the Odds" and the Nelson Beats the Odds Comic Creator app for iOS. "Nelson Beats the Odds" is an inspiring children’s graphic novel series that celebrates friendship and resilience. Nelson Beats the Odds Comic Creator is a free self-esteem app that allows users to customize their photos and celebrate their strengths.
Ronnie Sidney, II, LCSW, is an award-winning author, therapist, entrepreneur, app developer, professional speaker, author, consultant, workshop presenter and social advocate. He received a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014. Sidney is the author of "Nelson Beats the Odds", "Tameka's New Dress", "Rest in Peace RaShawn", "Rest in Peace RaShawn Reloaded", "Nelson Beats the Odds: Compendium One", "Educator's Guide to the Nelson Beats the Odds Series", and "Nelson Beats the Odds Activity Guide".
Born in Richmond, Virginia, on August 14, 1983, Ronnie was raised in Tappahannock, Virginia, and attended Essex County Public Schools (ECPS). While attending ECPS, he spent seven years in special education after being diagnosed with a learning disability. The stigmatization of special education fostered resentment and disinterest in school.
